Horncastle Air Cadets Remember The Fallen

Over the next few days 1265 (Horncastle) Sqn will join with the rest of the nation in remembering those who have paid the ultimate price to protect us and our way of life.

On Saturday 7th we'll be in Horncastle Town centre selling poppies with the Royal British Legion, helping them to raise funds to look after those who have returned with the physical and mental scars of conflict.

On Sunday 8th we'll be joining the Royal Anglian Regiment, the Royal British Legion and several other youth organisations to parade through Horncastle as part of the Remembrance Sunday commemorations.

On Friday 13th we'll be joining 1073 (Skegness) Sqn at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at The Embassy Theatre, Skegness.

Air Combat Power

By Cpl Alden Midmer

On Saturday the 10th we were invited to an Air Combat Power presentation at RAF Coningsby. During the day we were shown around various aircraft by Wing Commander ‘Andy’, CoS - JFAC HQ who was in charge of the event and his support team.

First of all we were allowed to see the 75th Battle of Britain anniversary typhoon which was parked next to the Mark 16 Spitfire that the camouflage scheme was based on. It was an amazing experience to be able to come with in touching distance of the typhoon as this was personally one of the aircraft that I wanted to see most after seeing it in various magazines and on TV.

Next we were moved onto the Hercules and the A400M (the new replacement for the retiring Hercules, which will go out of service in 2022) and immediately distinguish the size difference between the two. The Hercules was a Special Forces variant and was surrounded by specialist equipment: a special ops boat, emergency relief crates and a bowser.

International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE) Oklahoma USA - 2015

By Sgt Robert Brookes

I was selected to go on International Air Cadet Exchange in March to go to the USA and although I wasn’t allocated a State to go to I was shocked and exited at the same time, I was going to be an air cadet ambassador. By Mid-June I found all of the details out like my reporting instructions at Heathrow, which US bound aircraft I would be on and most importantly which State I was allocated, Oklahoma. I was also ecstatic with this, even though I had no knowledge about where Oklahoma was, I started the research almost immediately upon finding out.

DSCN2340When I arrived in the US, I spent two days in Washington D.C in the Crystal City District of Arlington State in the Crystal City Hilton Hotel (this was called Phase one) and met the people who would be going to Oklahoma, which included one other British Cadet, two Australian Cadets and one Australian Escort Officer, and two Canadians, although there where cadets from Hong Kong, Korea, New Zealand, Turkey, Belgium and many more places.
